Uppermill, Saddleworth
Uppermill Museum in bloom, The first sight you see as you enter Uppermill....(Click On The Picture To Enlarge).

Hi and welcome to another one of my Saddleworth local pages, helpful for local residents and tourists alike.
But firstly lets start by touching on the most important local attractions the local Pubs and Eateries..
Uppermill Square the first place everyone heads for is dominated by the "Commercial Hotel" a local legend and purveyor of fine Bass Yorkshire, looking across the square to the new but extremely popular "Bella Collina" wine bar, both pubs with plenty of live entertainment at weekends and other more traditional events during the week.
Also situated in the Square "The Shalimar" a good local curry house and at weekends a traditional English "Burger Bar" for the late night revellers. It is also possible to get yourself a Taxi in the square at all times to take you to anywhere in the area By Calling 01457 87 47 33 (Who Knows It Maybe Me?).
Just in the outskirts of the Square is the local Chinese Chippy "The Golden Dragon" open to the early hours at weekend.
On the High Street we have two other pubs The "Granby" facing the Museum and the excellent and recently refurbished "Waggon and Horses"go in and say hello to "Aidy and his Wife".
Facing the Waggon you will find "Uppermill Tandoori" another purveyor of that traditional English Dish (Curry).
Hidden away from sight but not from mind is the "Cloggers" on Lee St. it's easy to find turn right at the Civic Hall.
A number of Social Clubs and function rooms are situated on the High St. including Uppermill Conservative Club, The Masons Lodge and the Village Manor all readily available to accommodate to Weddings, Birthday Parties etc.
Uppermill Library and Park, fun for the kids and free Internet access from the library, So perhaps you can browse the site while enjoying the local gardens... (Click To Enlarge)
More traditionally associated with Saddleworth, The Band Contest, if you've never seen it then watch "Brassed Off" available on Video and DVD, there are two pubs just out of the village which cater for these occasions "The Church" and "The Cross Keys" the latter being part of the local Folk Music scene.

The High Street itself is full of diversity ranging from street cafe's, many gift and local souvenir shops, climbing and outdoor pursuits, you may want to walk to Pots and Pans, clearly visible high above the village. There is a Museum looking at our local heritage, a history set against a backdrop of dark stannic woollen mills to today's prosperous, thriving tourist industry.
The Huddersfield narrow canal has just fully re-opened for the first tine in 70 years allowing people to travel through the full length of Britain's canal network, One of the many attractions of this part of the network is the infamous Standedge Tunnel, 3 miles long piercing straight through the heart of the pennines into Yorkshire.
Locally boat journeys are available from the Museum though to Brownhill and Dobcross, this service runs through the summer months and is available for individual trips or block bookings, ask for John...
